Need To Raise Funds For A Youth Athletic Team? Go For The Goal With Gold

Trying to raise funds for a youth athletic team can be challenging, especially when parents are bombarded with various fundraising efforts from other extracurricular activities and their schools. To get the most participation, you'll need to come up with a fundraiser that will be exciting and benefit the team as well as the people who contribute to the fundraiser. One way to do this is by collecting gold to sell and/or recycle by hosting a Go for the Goal with Gold event.

Go for the Goal with Gold

You'll need a designated location to hold your event where people will gather to sell and/or donate their gold jewelry, cell phones, computers, and electronics. Here are the three ways to collect gold for your fundraiser.

Jewelry

Many people have old, unwanted, or broken jewelry that they may want to get rid of. Host a party where participants can sell their gold with a profit of the sales, such as a small percentage, going to your fundraising efforts. Contact local gold buyers and ask them if they would be willing to come to your event location, which can be held at a community center or in a conference room. Ask local antique dealers if they have any gold items that they would be interested in selling. They may have a few pieces of jewelry that have been difficult for them to sell to their typical buyers.

Old Cell Phones

Cell phones contain small pieces of gold. Each cell phone only has a negligible amount of gold in them but, when combined together, one gram of gold can be found in 35-40 cell phones. At today's current gold prices, that equates to roughly $40 and some change. Ask your fundraising participants to ask their friends, family members, and neighbors to donate their old cell phones. Shoot for a goal of several hundred cell phones and your organization could easily earn several hundred dollars. You can take the cell phones to a recycling center or remove the gold from the pieces and sell them in bulk to a gold buyer.

Old Computers & Electronics

Old computers and electronics also contain gold and other precious metals. You may find that people have old computers and electronics that they wouldn't mind getting rid of. However, focus on businesses for this fundraising effort and you may get more items, particularly in industries that routinely upgrade their computers and electronics, such as medical offices and call centers. These types of items cannot be thrown away as there are environment protection regulations in place. They have to be disposed of properly through a recycling center. You can pick up donated items or have a drop off point where people can leave their items.

Additional Incentives & Fundraisers

In addition to the three types of ways to collect gold, offer additional incentives and fundraisers using the go for the goal with gold concept. Designate an area where children can donate a small amount of money to go for a goal with a soccer net or a basketball hoop and receive a gold medal. While people are at your event, they may get hungry and thirsty while they wait their turn for their gold appraisals and sales. Have a bake sale or hire a catering truck.

Ask parents in your organization who have pickup trucks if they could donate their time and the use of their vehicles to haul the gathered items to the recycling centers. Give them an incentive to make it worth their while by offering them gift cards to a gas station and another to a local sporting goods store.
